About Dr. Saigal
Pooja Saigal, M.D., is a board-certified family physician and board-certified integrative medicine physician. She earned her medical degree from Northwestern University and completed her family medicine residency at The University of Chicago. Inspired by her mother's holistic medical approach and several other mentors, she pursued a fellowship in integrative medicine at The University of Arizona's Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine, emphasizing holistic wellness and addressing underlying causes of disease.
Dr. Saigal has over a decade of experience in integrative medicine and family medicine, serving patients in clinic and hospital settings, mentoring health professionals, developing educational programs, teaching residents, and leading the residency at The University of Chicago. She received the Family Medicine Teacher of the Year award from the Illinois Academy of Family Physicians for her exceptional teaching and mentoring. Through various fellowships, she honed her skills in teaching, leadership, and communication. With these skills, her background in psychology, and her training in mindfulness, stress management, and trauma-informed care, she emphasizes psychosocial and spiritual wellness in her patient care. Currently a clinical associate professor at The University of Chicago, Dr. Saigal continues to mentor residents and faculty in integrative medicine, teaching, and leadership. She also leads holistic wellness workshops for judges for the Supreme Court of Illinois and wellness sessions for underserved youth in Chicago.
Dr. Saigal has several publications in integrative medicine and co-authors the hypothyroidism chapter in David Rakel's highly regarded, authoritative Integrative Medicine textbook. Her approach to integrative medicine emphasizes evidence-based practice, while also incorporating her insights from patient care. She shares evidence-based tips on Facebook and Instagram to promote informed wellness.
In her free time, Dr. Saigal enjoys family time, hiking, travel, art, music, sports cars, mentoring others, and of course, cooking. She currently is pursuing a culinary certificate at Le Cordon Bleu® to “integrate” classic cooking techniques and cuisines with anti-inflammatory dietary patterns.
